Below are some photographs taken by myself and
some fellow Hatteras Islanders of the aftermath of
Hurricane Isabel that struck the Outer Banks on the
18th of Sept., 2003. We are trying to convey the power
and destruction brought on by this mighty natural phenomenon.

North to KDH
On 29 Sept 03, 12 days after Hurricane Isabel struck Hatteras Island, I had to
travel north to Kill Devil Hills for my employer. It amazed me how extensive the
damage was to the dune line that protects Hatteras Island north of the village
of Rodanthe. Hatteras Island was reopened to vacationers on this same day and
the following sequence of pictures taken on my return trip back to Buxton as I
approached the north end of Rodanthe shows some of the damage done by Izzy,
the continuing efforts to repair this damage and the continuing effects of this
storm on the inhabitants and visitors.

What is happening now?
Apparently from all the calls we get from all our children and friends in Ohio and around
the country, the news organizations have not done a very good job of reporting on Hatteras
Island and Hatteras Village. Here is the straight word from someone who lives here.
The Real Scoop
